Great weather boosted attendance at the Heroes and Villains themed Fun on The Broadway event on Thursday 30th August, organised by Thatcham Town Council.

The Town Council was delighted to provide free fun for families as the summer holidays drew to a close and the free activities on offer included a circus skills workshop, The Armadillo Art Experience with their “wanted posters” or “newspaper front page” drawing workshop, The Creation Station with superhero themed arts & craft, Little Munchkins face painting and glitter tattoos and “wildlife heroes” with BBOWT. Gardner Leader, who sponsored the event had a stall giving out goodies, manned by Wonderwoman and Superman as well as hosting arts and crafts in their offices too and MF Dance attended with their dance twister game.

Town Council mascot Cyril the Squirrel, dressed in his superhero mask and cape, helped the Mayor and Deputy Mayor judge the fancy dress competition. Callum aged 6, won for the boys category, dressed as Harry Potter and Erin aged 7, won for the girls category dressed as a nurse. Her mum explained that she thought that nurses were real life superheroes and Councillor Jan Cover, Town Mayor of Thatcham agreed. Their prizes were generously donated by Best Buds Florist.

Madam Mayor also held a bake sale on The Broadway Green and raised a whopping £120 for her nominated charities of Hedgehog Bottom and Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

168 children took part in the Town Centre wide treasure hunt, following Cyril’s clues around the participating stores, many of whom were hosting extra promotions and giving away goodies to their extra visitors that day. Participants were Gardner Leader, AB Walker, Best Buds Florist, Courtyard Café, Creative Teamwear Ltd, House of Cards, Kingsland Café, Leightons Opticians, Picture It, Sue Ryder, Sweet Imagination and Warings Bakery. Picture It kindly donated a free hand or foot 3D casting session and the Courtyard Café kindly donated breakfast for two people, for the winners of the treasure hunt.
