Creepy Crawly Fun on the Broadway
Bugs & Butterflies was the theme as Fun on the Broadway returned to Thatcham on Thursday 31st August. Children embraced the idea by dressing up in costumes ranging from ladybirds to spidermen and two lucky girls dressed as a ladybird and butterfly came joint first in the Fancy Dress competition judged by the Town Mayor of Thatcham, winning a grow your own garden set each generously donated by Thatcham’s new florist Best Buds Florist.
Thatcham Town Council was delighted to provide free fun for families as the summer holidays drew to a close and the free activities on offer included a circus skills workshop, The Creation Station with bug themed arts & craft, face painting & glitter tattoos and mini-beast creations with BBOWT and Thatcham Town Council. Daisy First Aid were also their demonstrating paediatric first aid to parents and carers whilst the children enjoyed the activities.
Cllr Ellen Crumly, Town Mayor of Thatcham held a cake sale raising a worthy £87 for her nominated charities of Young People & Children First and The Rosemary Appeal.
Despite the initial showers turnout was good and the atmosphere was jolly especially when the Town Council mascot, Cyril, appeared dressed as a bee, handing out sweets.
69 children took part in the Town Centre wide treasure hunt, following Cyril’s clues around the participating stores, many of whom were hosting extra promotions and giving away goodies to their extra visitors that day. Participants were Gardner Leader, Best Buds Florist, Waitrose, House of Cards, Kingsland Café, Leightons Opticians, Toucan Travel and Picture It who generously donated the prize for the Treasure Hunt. The Mayor drew the winner out at the end of the day and delighted siblings Will and Ella received their prize of a farmyard animal picture and a box of chocolates.
