United Service of Remembrance
Each July a special service is held at the London Road Cemetery bringing people together to remember loved ones who has passed away. Organised by the Town Council the Mayor’s Chaplain normally leads the service with poetry, readings and prayers read by Councillors, members of local churches and representatives from the Mayor’s charities. Normally volunteers from Samaritans and/or Cruse Bereavement Care are available after the service to support visitors.
The service is usually held on a grassed area in the centre of the cemetery, if the weather is particularly unpleasant then the service will be held in the Cemetery chapel. Whilst anyone is welcome to join the service, invitations are directly sent to the family of all those who have been interred at the cemetery in the preceding 2 years.
