Love Your Local Market at Thatcham Market

200 lucky customers “bagged” themselves a limited edition, Thatcham Market Shopper Bag during the nationally celebrated Love Your Local Market fortnight, held between 17th – 31st May 2017.

Newly re-elected Town Mayor of Thatcham Cllr Ellen Crumly officially opened the celebrations at Thatcham Market on Friday 19th May accompanied by her husband Cllr Richard Crumly and the new Deputy Mayor Cllr Jan Cover. Both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor purchased items from two stalls which entitled them to receive an exclusive bag and 100 bags were given out that day with the remaining 100 distributed on Friday 26th May.

The market, managed by Thatcham Town Council, looked festive adorned with Love Your Local Market balloons. As well as regular stalls such as fruit & veg, flowers & plants, bakery, pet food, meat and jewellery there were extra stalls such as Utility Warehouse who brought along a brand new Mini Cooper that customers could win, The Canal Ministries who were promoting their “Boats of Hope” that were moored on the canal by Thatcham train station all week and an antiques stall selling old medals and ornaments.

The theme of this year’s Love Your Local Market was celebrating youth and young entrepreneurship and the Council were delighted to provide complimentary pitches both days to Prior’s Court School and Prior’s Court Young Adult Provision who sold their mini-enterprise creations such as handmade cards, soaps, bags, trinket boxes, candles and tie dye t-shirts. Prior’s Court were thrilled to take part and said that “it enabled our young people to put their customer services skills into practice in a real life situation and also gave us the chance to be an active part of our community.”

If you have always wanted to try your hand at running a market stall but are nervous about making a long term commitment then casual pitches are always available at Thatcham Market on the Broadway Green for just £8.50 pay on the day. You need to provide your own stall, equipment and not clash with any existing products sold on the market but in return will receive free promotion on social media and the chance to showcase your products to Thatcham market’s visitors.

Thatcham’s market is open every Friday (except between Christmas & New Year) from 9am and if you would like to book a stall at Thatcham’s Friday market then please call Thatcham Town Council on 01635 863592 or email
