Thatcham Town Mayor Re-elected
Councillor Ellen Crumly was re-elected Mayor of Thatcham at a special ceremony on Sunday 15th May 2017. Councillor Crumly will serve as Mayor for a second year, an honour which was only been bestowed on 5 other Mayors in the Town Council’s 43 year history.
Councillor Crumly was previously a Thatcham Town Councillor from 2007 to 2011 and then was elected in 2015 as a Councillor for the Thatcham Central Ward. Madam Mayor has appointed her husband, Councillor Richard Crumly, as her Escort and Revd Mark Bennet as her Chaplain. Councillor Jan Cover was elected as Deputy Mayor.
Each year the Mayor names at least one organisation to be their charity for the year and donations are made to the fund at numerous Town Council events throughout the year. For the Civic year of 2017-18 Councillor Crumly has selected 2 charities: The Rosemary Appeal and Young People and Children First.
The Rosemary Appeal has been launched by the Newbury and District Cancer Care Trust with the aim of raising £4.5million to create a new dialysis and cancer care centre at West Berkshire Community Hospital, providing essential facilities to the local community, including day therapy, chemotherapy, renal dialysis, IV therapies and a CT scanner.
Young People and Children First support Foster Care Leavers as they transition from being teenagers to being independent adults. They ensure that the young people have all the right building blocks in place to go confidently and positively into adult life so they can reach their potential, not hindered by their troubled start. Above all, they prevent disadvantaged children and young people being homeless.
