United Service of Remembrance 2017
The annual United Service of Remembrance took place at London Road Cemetery on Sunday 16th July 2017. Thatcham Town Mayor, Councillor Ellen Crumly, welcomed everyone to the event and handed over to her chaplain, Revd Mark Bennet, from St. Mary’s Church, Thatcham, to commence the service.
More than 80 people gathered on the central lawn area of the Cemetery under a small marquee to take part in the service and to remember loved ones. Revd Pat Jones from St. Mary’s Church and Elizabeth Oxbury from Thatcham Free Church took different parts of the service. Cold Ash Brass Band played music before and after the service as well as accompanying the hymns. Representatives from Cruse Bereavement Care were on hand to talk with people after the service.
The Mayor, Councillor Ellen Crumly, remarked “More people than ever before joined us for this year’s service, it is a privilege to be able to offer them some support as they remember loved ones.”
